Jack, could you tell us more about your shops? Is it just a club, or you guys repair full scale too, and live steam gets thrown in? Pennsy A5 always looked line a cool switcher locomotive, was toying about making the a3 into an A5 as well. Do you guys sell castings and other stuff?

Bill. I will post a few more of the ILS 2003 Railfest photros in this section. A PRR K4sa # 612 with the morning express train. To answer your questions about castings for the PRR A5 we only have patterns for the drivers in 1.6 scale. I have the clynders built and have the drivers cast but I haven't machined then as of yet. That is as far as I got on that locomotive. Jack

Bill, 2003 Railfest at Altoona,Pa. An express train with passengers crossing the lead track to the rear of the roundhouse at the Railroaders Memorial Museum. The roundhouse is under construction and will have ,I think 5 or 6 bays to house the Museums locomotives and rolling stock. A PRR GG1 and the famous PRR K4sa #1361 will have berths in the facility. The tank car in the background has been donated and presented to the Hazardous Material Response Team for the city of Altoona to be used for training by the citys fire Department. Jack

Bill, This view shows the original museum building now known as Memorial Hall. Another very large 4 story building now houses the Railroader Memorial building on the same grounds. An express train leaving Memorial Hall with passengers. Anybody wishing to make a trip into Pennsylvania must stop and visit the Museum at Altoona,Pa. as well as the Pennsylvania Museum at Strasburg,Pa. Well worth the time spent. Jack

Hi Jack, Thanks for posting the pic of me and my little locomotive and for the kind words. I had a great time that weekend and made some new friends there. Thank you for the invitation to participate. I'm looking forward to running there again.... Are your ears still ringing? The band that was setting up on the Queen Mary didn't like me interupting their soundchecks on Sunday. They practically growled at me each time I went past them ;D....I also still chuckle about how smokey she was at the higher altitude. You should have seen people on Saturday each time I pulled into the station and opened the blower valve. Man, I LOVE Pocahontas coal.... ;D Have you found anybody else who was taking pictures that weekend? I'm still interested in a picture or 2 of me pulling Wayne's train. Thanks again, Andy Pullen

This photo is a must to see by all. Ed Woodings on the left, builder of the beautiful PRR T1 No. 6110 with an old friend a Pennsy retierd engineer who used to hustle the monster Ts up and around the curve,Bill Haxel. Bill lives in the Altoona area and is active at the museum. We all need to support our local rail museums were ever they are and keep the history of the iron horse alive. Thay have played a huge part in building these United States and we all should be proud to display our minuture equiptment because the sad fact is that most of the protoypes are no longer with us. Another beautiful Pennsy locomotive. PRR E6s,4-4-2. Built to 1.6 scale. The group has just about built about all the types that the Pennsy had in their roster. We have a few classes that haven't been built by the group. The ILS group has a Pennsy H10s finished and not shown and under construction another Pennsy H10,2-8-0, several Pennsy A5s,0-4-0, 2 Pennsy N2,2-10-2, Pennsy F1a,2-6-0 and a Pennsy Q2,4-4-6-4. Last not not least we are planning to do a body of a Pennsy GG1 in fiberglass, stay tuned.

Last of a series of photographs taken at the Altoona,Pa Railfest at the Railroaders Memorial Museum. I wish to note to all at this point that all the locomotives that have been shown here in this series Pennsy Power 3 have been scratched built but we the ( ILS ) do our own patterns such as for the wheels and couplers, etc. Most of the accessorys such as pumps, valves, pipe fittings marker lights and domes are all scratch built also. It truely is a labor of love and a tribute to the fellows who seen their projects trough to the end and the payoff was the first steam-up and run. Well done gentlemen. I wish to thank all the folks that have spent some time looking at this series of photographs of our group and extend to them an invitation to participate in some of the ILS events. All Live Steamers are welcome . Thank You. Independent Live Steamers of PA. Pittsburgh-Middle Divisions Jack W. Miller Sr.

Jack, perhaps one day your group could share their expertise in teaching us new guys the ways of making our own patterns? After my A3 is built, I have many idea's as to what I want to build. Thanks for all the pictures. Who does the castings for you?
