Since our Soo Line GP-9 is actually a passenger unit, I finally got around to making the steam generator for the short hood. I made the base for the stack out of 1/16 flat brass plate soldered together, and the makeup air intake out of the same material by annealing it and whacking it in an oak die with a large oak dowel formed to the contour of the hood. I could have made it nicer with some thinner material but I didn't have any.
It is good enough for who its for.
Steam generator stack under the large spark arrester on the left. The makeup air screen and hood are in the smaller cover on the right.
View of the front.
The only prototype photo I could lay my hands on, but it was enough.
