We went up to Versailles KY today to visit the Leviathan 4-4-0 and the Lincoln Funeral Car. Very impressive.
Leviathan 4-4-0 built from patterns and castings used in the creation of the Promontory point locomotives. It is magnificently constructed.
Lincoln Funeral car recreation. The original car was destroyed by fire in 1911 in Minnesota. One piece of clerestory glazing is all that remained of the original car but the windows in this recreation were made precisely and they are elegant. The furnishings are speculative but period. The trucks are copies but in place of wood beams they have welded steel, but very convincing replication.
The interior of the car is mostly speculative, but as near as they could get with a few photos and some plans they found.
I was very impressed with the quality of the workmanship. These are worth going to see if they come near where you are.
