How do you post pictures? Thanks Dave

IIRC (different boards, different answers) you have to post the picture at another site (photobucket, flickr, etc.) and link to it. I use Flickr and there is a tool that allows me to cut and paste the commands needed into a message on the board here.

What is the tool you mention? I have tried to link to the Flickr and all that is showing up is the icon for the photo. Learning curve is close to surrender!

Ray, After uploading a photo to your account on flickr, click on the photo to open the single photo view in your browser. The image dominates the left and center of the page. Above the image you should see a drop down menu item labeled "Share \/". Press this menu button. Expand the choice of "Grab the HTML/BBCode". Notice that you have a second choice of image size. Choose your size if the default of medium is not desired. Copy the text by selecting it with the mouse and typing Ctrl-C. Bring the mouse to this BB reply composer window and paste the text by typing Ctrl-V. You should see square brackets and HTML tags such as url= and \[img\] Finished bevel gears by edhume3, on Flickr Press the Preview button on the bottom of the reply editor window. You should see your reply at the top of the page with a displayed image. Note - you did not need to use any of the "Add Tags:" buttons in the reply editor. Once you like the preview, press the "Post Reply" button to upload your message.

Ed--thank you for the help. I have tried this step by step and my photos did not end up on the page, an X is all that shows up. I must have something in my Flickr account some where but being one with limited mental capital to be used up on trying to learn this stuff I would not know where to look.
I will try to edit my post and see what happens.
Thanks again.....

Ed's instructions look to be right on the mark. But I don't see one other thing in there that may make a difference. In the dialog box that opens when you click on "Share v", almost at the very bottom are two "radio" buttons, one labeled HTML and the other BB code. Use the one labeled BB code. The HTML one doesn't seem to work. The code just comes through as part of the message, but not the photo. I attached this one using the steps as Ed said but checking the BB code button at the bottom of the share dialog box in Flickr. Saddle by stagetech56, on Flickr

Thank all of you for trying to help but the thread is beyond my abilities for posting photos. I plan to make a build thread with Word and then PDF it to the folks who are interested rather than to continue.
Some threads are more difficult than others--one of the best I had a lot of fun on was building and sailing my 1:24 scale model of HMS Surprise. You could post photos directly from your computer and there was a notify button that sent an e-mail automatically when someone posted something to that particular thread.
I do hope to meet a few you you along the way--our first venture will be to Columbia TN in early May where several have invited us to come down and check out the railroad as well as meet some suppliers.
Sincerely, Raymbo

Ray, you are close to success. You did successfully post a link, however, in flickr you need to change the Owner Settings for the photo so that anyone can view it - right now the photo is private. Look towards the bottom right on the photo's page in flickr.

Ed--I must still have something wrong somewhere. I tried the BBC and the short URL as well as the long URL--all the photos have been changed to the "anyone can see them" so I am not sure what I have wrong. I may need an IT guy to look at this the next time I go to Lexington. Thanks for the help.

We must all be missing something such as you are using old software and all the features do not work correctly for you. You have [image] showing up in your posts - why? Do not use any of the "Add Tags" buttons above the reply text editing area - only cut and paste the BB text. Here is your photo posted using the instructions: 04 by Ray Grosser, on Flickr

Ed--OK, let me try that. I have been using the add tags and maybe that has been my problem. 03 by Ray Grosser, on Flickr

That was it--thank you Ed, you have made my day.
I plan to post some photos of the boxcar I am working on now.
