Do you drill before bending the upper archbars and inverted archbars or after?
Thanks

Hi Bruce, I drilled after bending. Beware!! I had a lot of trouble getting the vertical length of the inverted arch the same length. Took me a couple tries. Good to see someone else building the new shay.

David, thank you so much. I'm all ears. I started a long time ago and got distracted by life etc. I was hoping to get the trucks assembled soon for the LALS small scales meet next weekend. I would love to hear from anyone who is building the New Shay. I have never seen one at a meet. Only on the net.
Thanks again

Hi Bruce, yes I did use the drilling gig. All of this maching stuff was(is) new to me so I have pretty much used Kozos methods. So far I have built the frame, trucks, all 3 pumps and I am working on the boiler, pretty much following the book. I have never seen any of Kozos engines, although I know there is a new shay at the Pioneer Valley RR in Ma. I have been working on mine for 2.5 years. I'm hoping to have the boiler done by the end of the summer.

Thanks Dave! With the traction problems that small scale engines have, I would gues that the all wheel drive shay would interest many people. Good luck.

Thanks Dennis. I have only built the frame and am now doing the trucks. The journal boxes were a lot of work but that's all behind me now. I hope to hear from others building the engine. I bought wheel castings from John K. and will be turning them soon.

Hi Dennis, I built the wheels using Kozos method. I was surprised how nice they came out. I used a medium head on a Sievert torch for heat. it took about 3 or 4 minutes for each wheel. I used the same form for all the wheels. Good luck

Hi Dennis and Bruce, how's progress. I have finished the sheets on the boiler and onto the paralell skin. Silver soldering is going well but I'm finding the closer you keep the tolerances the easier the soldering.
