I'd like to build a live steam Union Pacific 4400 in 7-1/2" gage. I have the Kozo A3 switcher book, and am considering it as a basis. Anybody have (non-Kozo) plans for such a thing, ideas on what might trip me up in modifying Kozo's plans?

Anybody have (non-Kozo) plans for such a thing, ideas on what might trip me up in modifying Kozo's plans? I'll echo my post from Chaski: You may need a more elaborate suspension setup to keep it on the track. 0-4-0s tend to be pretty bulletproof even when nearly rigid, but anything more requires some thought. Other than that, extending the chassis and thus the boiler would probably be OK. The basic concepts are sound. You also might consider buying a set of JohnK's A3 cylinder castings and driver castings in 1 1/2" scale. Also, at 1 1/2" scale it is probably wise at least from the standpoint of your checkbook not to make an all-copper boiler. Make a steel boiler with copper flues. Also, add brakes to the engine or plan to have tender / train brakes. --Mike
