USA made Precision Twist Drill brand drill bits are carried by most major tool supply companies. We use them at my job, making aircraft parts. They are a bit more expensive than some other brands, but are better made than the cheaper imports. (Stay away from cheap, chinese junk. The runout on them is atrocious.) Depending on your application, you may want to get cobalt bits for heavy duty use, or the black oxide finish rather than the bright finish that is common for general use.

Thanks Larry. I was not sure if precision was us or not. I found that they are the same company that makes triump drill bitts. It seems the blanks are inported and then the drill is formed in the US Virgin Islands. At least that is what I have read.

It was recommended to me to not skimp on a drill set. So I bought a USA drill set, 150 piece (I think?) from Enco. Well worth it. There are some things you can skimp on, and some things you don't want to skimp on. Drills and endmills are one of those things worth spending a little money on, so the don't break off in your part and other such nastiness. I think there's three grades of drill sets - the chinese ones, entirely made overseas, the USA ones, which I think are chinese blanks finished here in the USA, and there's one level higher that are super expensive that are made entirely domestically, but I don't think they're worth it for what we are doing. I have not had any problems with the USA ones. -M

I also have a set of made in USA brand jobber bitts from ENCO. It is the complete set and I can say nothing bad about them. Good stuff. AS said, the brands made soly in the USA are just too expensive for me. Around 400. and up for a complete set. As a home hobby fellow I will stick with the mid grade such as Made in USA, triumph or precision. I kind of hate to spend the money for the shorter twist drill set, but, rigidity and length will sure help out on my taig machines. I have a larger 3-1 shoptask which will also profit from twist drills. When using larger size bitts the mill head has to be rased so high it screws with acuracy. At any rate, thanks for all the input.
Thanks

If you are still searching for high quality drills, look for "Sutton" or "P and N", These drills are made in Australia and are excellent quality and value. Sorepaws
