I`m having trouble with the paint on my A3. It is only the smokebox and smoke stack that are affected. The paint burns and blisters. Is it possible I`m running the blower too high? I`ve looked at many pics and videos of similar locos, and I`ve not seen paint burning problems like mine. I`ve noticed many locos have a silver firebox. Is there some type of super high heat silver paint?. My smokebox has .1 thickness of asbestos insulation, covered by a .020 brass sheathing. What type of paint is everyone using? I`ve thought about buying automotive engine enamel, but a gas engine only runs about 200 degrees, I believe. My smokebox temp exceeds 450 degrees F. I know this because a soft soldered fitting had melted loose.

You should be using high temperature engine paint on anything that gets warm, even paint on non heated items that are near steam pipes.
Automotive engine paint has different temperature ratings for different colors due to the dyes involved...check the can before you buy. Some of it is rated to much higher than what a gas engine reaches. The same companies make paints for applications up to 1200 F and higher. Also check stove paints.
