Well, it's that season again...the spring meets. in California that's a lot of tracks. An hour away from me is George Pruitt's Sage Brush Short Line railroad in Ridgecrest, one of the friendliest tracks around. This meet was to be a shakedown cruise for my new travel trailer, trying out the 'steam gypsy' lifestyle as opposed to the usual motel fare. Full set of Pictures: www.mikemassee.com/gallery/v/livesteam/ridgecrest_sagebrush_short_line/sage_brush_short_line_spring_2009_meet/Lots of notable people on hand including Harry Haas and Gene Allen. Saturday morning saw many of the 21 engines that showed up out and running, which gets exciting on signal controlled two-way running on single track narrows. From 10am to 2pm many guests of the volunteers showed up and were given rides. Railroad poker was played and much sitting around in the shade was accomplished when it got too hot on Saturday afternoon. Dinner was a pit roasted steak and pork which cooked all day from 5am to 5pm, plus the usual pot luck fixins. The Sit'n'Bull yard and shops remained crowded until the wind picked up later in the evening. Sunday got real windy and a lot of us bailed, but that didn't stop Gene from running the pants off his American.
