I have started building John Klover's Baldwin Flexible Beam Truck Locomotive in 3/4 scale ... seriialized in Live Steam starting in May/June 2000
Is anyone else building one?
My first step is to make my own electronic copy of the drawings ... i use the printed copy in the shop ... avoiding damaging the magizines and the drawing exersize is a good way to get an understanding of each part and assembly ...
I have encountered a few problems with the dimensions of some parte ... but so far nothing serious ...
if there is intertest we might get a seperate forum going ...

I also found several dimensional errors. The first was that little piece that rasies the outer frames above the pilot beam. John says it should be 3/32 not the .125 shown the the plans. The front frame spacer behind the pilot could be made with a notch in each corner so it would be flush with the top of the pilot beam. I get a wide range of final dimensions on the fixed truck frames. I have redrawn them to work for 1 1/2" scale. I finally settled on a centerline of the axles all the same distance down from the main frame and made the truck frames match. Also John starts some pieces large and they get finished down on another page. This could get real long. More at another time. I have some blanks to mill into drivers, when it gets cold and rainy and I have my first locomotive running.
