building a freelance 4 4 0 american. Ran the engine on air. Runs beautiful. Hung the side rods to couple the four wheels. Won't make a complete revolution, binds up.Tore it all apart, checked my axles for 90 degrees. Right on. Checked all my wheels to be sure the crankpin hole lined up with the keyway. Right on. Baffled!!!!! Any ideas. Thank you Paul

You probably need to closely examine your frames, bushings, and the side rods. If the side rods are equal, and the wheels are equal, there must be a mismatch in the frames and bushings. You may be able to create new axles boxes and/or bushings that change the wheel separation slightly to make it equal. Or, maybe when you put it back together the axle boxes and bushings are not in their original position.

How did you determine the length of your side rods? Kozo's A3 plans show making a temporary adjustable rod to determine the proper working length, and then using this as a drilling guide. Did you do something along these lines?
