I just received a $50 gift certificate to a bookstore.
Is there a book (or two) that folks consider a "must have" that addresses mostly machining but maybe also machining as it applies to models (steam, etc.).
There was one book I remember hearing of that sounded interesting but I failed to take note of it thinking I could find it when I wanted. But of course now can't remember title or author. It was by a guy with a name that seems odd enough to me that I should remember it but of course I can't. Possibly an unusual, old fashioned sounding name? Ring any bells with anyone?
I have Machinery's Handbook, Nelson "So You Want to Build....", one of the Bray books from UK, Kozo A3, Southbend "How to Run a Lathe", and some reprints of old books from Lindsay Books on various machining topics whose titles escape me.
Thanks,
Paul

machine shop practice by karl moltrecht. Seems to be a golden standard among my older machinist friends. The few chapters I have read so far have been instructive - I used it in combination with machinery's handbook to figure out how to turn threads.
I have volumes 1 and 2.
If you don't have a machinery's handbook, you should grab one as well. A used, older copy is just fine. Has every last chart, table and material data spec you'll ever need.
