Most of you are probably wondering why under your names, "Gandy Dancer" is written. This forum has ranks, so to say. You go from Gandy Dancer to Fireman in 20 posts. If you get 40 posts, you are an Engineer. You need 100 to be a Brass Hat, and 500 to be a Railroad President. It's a little fun addition we added in. We are very pleased on how well this forum project is going Keep posting!!

I get it, I'll just have to write a few things off to people to get out of this track-worker stigma. I've built a few tracks in my day. brian

then we're going to get the railroad police, at cinncy during the steam era and depression, lots of hobos would be riding the rails trying to go out west or south, etc. before a train would leave cinncy, the railway police would fire 2 shots in the air, and all the hobos would run off
okay so theres no real reason for this post, just trying to increment my posts up by 1

Every board I belong to (many) is set up this way . . . . QUANTITY is more hightly regarded than QUALITY. I suppose it's the age we live in.

I do not mind being a gandy dancer, or a fireman, or an engineer, as I have been all but the first one professionally on ships.
But I do not want to be a Brass Hat. In my book that is a demotion as engineers consider them useless. ;D
How about shop foreman or Chief Mechanical Officer. Cheers Dan

At one point I had a similar thought. But without the Brass Hats, the engineers wouldn't have a job... We do have the capability to change those titles and add new ones if we really feel like it. --Mike

My grandfather was a gandy dancer during the depression with the WPA. The gandy dancers drove the pins that held the track to the timber. They swung short handled sledge hammers, one on each hand to drive the pins. These men had forearms like popeye. mike

This count of posts seems fair enough to me. It might be nice to have a utility in the "modify profile" section that would allow me to upload something for an avatar.
