Hi, While surfing the web, I came across this excellent web page on wheel turning: www.jghtech.com/html/wheel-turning-1.html A unique operation (to me at least) that is shown is that two cutting bits are used simultaneously to surface the front and back of the wheels. Enjoy, Pat Y.

I'm building a 2-10-0 Britisg 9F in 5"gauge, so I have twelve wheels onthe engine and six on the tender. A lot of wheels. What I did was after cleaning off the flash from the castings was to paint the wheels by dipping then in the paint and then hardening in the oven before machining. ( she who must be obeyed was away ;D I then left them for a week to completly harden. This gave me a very clean paint edge when machining. This is how a lot of chassis parts were done at Ford Motor Co where I did my apprentiship.
