Howdy all, My name is Dwight and I live in the Bay Area, CA. I've loved steam locomotives and trains as long as I can remember! I've been into #1 gauge live steam for several years now and am close to finally finishing up my scratch-built North Pacific Coast #21. www.northpacificcoastrailroad.com/She started life as an Accucraft Mogul. I'm also at the start of my first 7-1/2" gauge locomotive - a RRSC CP #173. I got a real good deal on a completely built-up chassis (already running on air), and I had a steel boiler made which I pickup up yesterday after a hydro test to 200psi. I thought I'd introduce myself as I already have many questions which I'll post in the appropriate places.

Welcome to the board although recently it has not been terribly active.
Looks like the P.C. #21 steams! So it is just the finishing touches left for it and then paint?

Yeah, she steams. Just a few wrinkles to iron out with the whistle (installed after the photo), and then she's ready for paint. I've already painted and lettered the tender a few weeks back.

Hi Wally and Welcome to the (somewhat quiet) group. There are a few of us actively building here. I think many (like me) don't think to have the camera in the shop to document things. And many of us are like you in that this is an ongoing but painfully slow at times process...
I have my tender about 95-98% complete (what's left is the last bits of plumbing, sealing tank to base, painting and light) and the loco is close to chassis running on air. I need bronze to do most of the bushings and glands yet and there are a few pins left to make for valve linkage.
Welcome to the group.

Hi folks,
I too am new here and it looks like a current post needed to be made. My name is Jerry Albers and 7.5 gauge is very new to me. I am in the process of building a small line on my property in Arizona. I lived 47 years in Colorado and grew up on the D&RGW. My father worked for them for 35 years. In 1973 I purchased my first of 5 full size D&RGW/RGS narrow gauge railroad cars. My goal was to restore them to operation condition....which I did. I worked on the tourist railroads in Central City and Silver Plume, Colorado from1972 to 1976. Eventually some of my railroad cars ended up there. Some were sold to others. I was still associated with the "loop" until 2004. I'll be asking a lot of questions about 7.5.....so be ready. Thank you, Jerry

Jerry, welcome. Do you know Phil Reader? He is a friend of mine. Now back at the loop once again as CMO and un-doing a lot of the problems that were caused by the management shakeups. Arizona is a good place for live steam. Have you been to Maricopa Live Steamers? Lots of excellent resources there. -Mike

Hi Mike,
I met Phil briefly many (many) years ago. I have not been back to the Loop since 2004. I plan to go this summer. Also, I have not been to the Maricopa group yet. So far the only place was the Joshua Tree Southern.

Welcome to the group. Post progress. Things have been slow on here! (Which I understand since my own progress is something less than a snail's pace.)

Hi Jeff, welcome aboard. I was in the same position 18 months ago. Went out and bought a grizzly lathe and mill and started to build Kozos new shay. New nothing about machining before I started. Have the frame and trucks done and hope to get to the boiler this fall. Still have the oil and water pumps to do. Its a lot of fun, I'm sure you/ll enjoy once you get going.

Welcome brook. Were you at the dinner this past January? I gave the video presentation about the Fllintridge and Portola Valley Railroad and the three C16's.
Cheers,
-Mike
