Once I get on to making the frame and other parts, I was wondering what is the Proper finish for the steel ? Gun blueing ? or flat black paint ? what do you guys use ? Thanks IronMan

I havent gotten that far yet, but even with blueing, it can rust still. How about some Primer?

Dear Ironman, First or all, I am new to this forum and have no experience with live steam locomotives. I have looked at a lot of web sites about the subject and find it really interests me. If you haven't seen Nelson Riedel's Shay project check out: www.nelsonslocomotive.com/Shay/shay.htmHe is powder coating his work. Powder coating makes a great finish but it is a lot of work to do. Perhaps others here can comment on how it lasts on a locomtive. Good luck, Rich

Hello Rich,
Thank you for the information, and especially for the webb site, real nice and lots of candy. Perhaps someday you will do more than look and start on a project of your own. I guess its how I started, be warned !!!
Regards, IronMan
