I purchased a project at a local live steam club, ie building the original Kozo shay in 1" scale. I have a mostly completed frame, wheels, and most parts to assemble the trucks. One question I have, not answered in the book, do I upsize the hardware? If so, how do I determine the correct size bolts, etc. I would also like to incorporate some of the design features of the new shay into this project, any thoughts on the pros and cons of doing that. My main interest is to make the shay look a little more like an updated shay from the 1920's or 30's era.

Hey Arthur, congrats on your new project. I always thought it would be fun to pick up where someone left off, assuming that they didn't screw up the project completely.
I have scaled up a small stationary engine from plans and I am working on building a Kozo A3 in 1.5" scale. I usually look at the hardware that was originally specified and go up 1 or 1.5 times. Doubling the hardware is not always the right thing to do. Does anyone have a more concrete method of scaling up hardware sizes?

Use your gut feeling. In kozo's A3 book, he states when making the lubricator, dont need to double the size of it for 1.5" scale, I think make it 1/3rd bigger? I forget exactly.
Just use your gut feelings with some educated conjecture.
