Has anyone made a list of all the calculations to do the Pennys Swicher in 1" scale. Larry.

I've been playing with the numbers on my 1" scale a3. I simply scaled up the axles, then to my horror, noticed the wheel standards are not scaled the same way, so I had to make all new numbers for the wheels, so I could use my axles still, lol. I will probably make a web page detailing my construction of my 1" scale A3. I'll let you know if I do on this forum.

I know that people would be happy to read about the issues you have encountered while changing the scale of your engine. I am attempting to document some of those problems on my project site but someone really needs to write a technical article of some kind I think.
Not only am I building the A3 in 1-1/2" scale, I am also using some pre-machined tender wheels, adding journal bearings, and I'm building it for a 7-1/4" track. I am basically trying to make my parts in an order that I will help avoid re-making anything. I did have to make a test axle but I think the 45 minutes that it took will save me time in the long run. I think the biggest problem I have had is figuring out how to install roller bearings into the journal boxes. I think my idea will work. If not i'll have to re-make a bunch of parts. Ugh!

Jamie, I used my cad program to find out all the dimensions, and I dont do any cutting until it works out on my cad program. I'll do a web page so others can see how I did it.

Hey Bill, great job on the website. This is what we need more of in our hobby. I like the idea of using CAD to help with the scaling problems. I'll have to try it.

A 1" scale A3 was built by one of the members of the Pennsylvania Live Steamers. I saw it a couple of years ago when I was visiting the club. All I know about the person is that he lives in lower Delaware and his son had a web page showing the A3. Maybe you can inquire at the club web site to gather more information.
