Hello.
I guess this question is specifically for Jim O'Connor or Jerec.
As we begin building a project, is it possible to have a forum opened for that particular locomotive class? (as in the Kozo forum presently going.) Or is that something reserved more for special needs of an unusual class of locomotive? Just curious.
I hope to start on a project in the near future, and I'm waiting for a couple of catalogs to decide what model I want to build. In the meantime, it never hurts to have help waiting in the wings! ;D

Not sure. I'll have to run it by Jim.

SURE! We can do almost anything as long as it doesn't get too confusing.
What do you have in mind? Can you give me an example?
Thanks Dale,
Jim.

Hi, Jim. Thanks for the response. I guess my first thought would be to have a forum for those building models from specific manufacturers; i.e., Little Engines, Allen Models, Klamath M&L Works, or any others that members are interested in. I am presently looking at starting an Allen Consolidation 2-8-0, but haven't ordered anything just yet. My first priority is getting my machining equipment, which I'm close to doing. So at the point I do get started, I would like to start an Allen Models forum. I would be interested to see if there is interest in any other manufacturer-based forums for those working on either specific models or trying to free-lance something from existing castings. So I guess that's my idea for now. BTW, my American 4-4-0 project has been put on hold for now; I like the look but not the scale of the LE model, it's too small an engine and can only pull a very light load. The Allen American is "free-lanced" based on their 10-wheeler castings and boiler. It results in an extra-long frame, with an ungainly space between the lead truck and the drivers. Also, Allen only offers a drive wheel modeled after the 1885 era with a cast-in counter-weight, and doesn't offer the 1850-era drivers with the bolt-on counter-weights that fill spaces between the spokes. So I'm at an impasse as to proceeding on that project until I can figure out what to do. I may look at some other manufacturers of parts and see if an acceptable drive wheel can be found. I'm sure the boiler and frame can be shortened to take care of the other problem. And I may talk to Allen about the possibility of doing a custom casting. Anyway, sorry for rambling on so long about that, but I am trying to get a project under way.... Dale
