On the left side of the engine, near the rear of the cab, it looks like there is a linkage coming vertically down out of the cab and attaching to a black lever via a slotted linkage. Immediately to the rear of that is another vertical linkage that originates just under the cab in what appears to be a pressure or vacuum cylinder. It attaches to the same black lever via a slotted linkage like the other.
Are these brake controls maybe? Is it common for there to be both manually applied and steam applied controls? I can see a screw type control in the backhead view but don't see any steam plumbing for the other one so maybe the second control linkage is just for looks. Are their normally dual controls like that on steam locos? Just wondering...
