Hi Group - new to the "Live Steam Forum" and facinated with the accomplishments of such an industrious group. I also enjoy sailing and joined a sailing forum and was amaized at what an educational oppertunity a forum can be.
First: I wold like to know what people are building? Good projects and those projects that probably were not a good idea.
Second: I would like to join a local "Live Steam" group. does anyone know of an active group in the Columbus, Ohio area.
Third: What are some of the really good books that others have found useful.
I'm retired, have done a lot of engineering (most of which was not particulary usefull) but still like to keep an active mind and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment.

Hello Jack, glad to have you aboard. I too am constantly amaized at what people can build either professionally or as a hobby. Some good places to start here are the General Forum where some of us have introduced ourselves and given a short bio. Then you may want to read through the Kozo Support Group Forum. In there you will find a thread near the top that lists what people are building and how they are doing. You will also find links to peoples' progress websites (like my own) where you can see pictures and read descriptions of what we are building. As for good books, go to www.discoverlivesteam.com and look around the bookstore. Jim carries some of the very popular books that people use for getting started. I personally enjoy reading old back issues of Live Steam Magazine and Home Shop Machinist. You can find people selling the old ones on Ebay and of course get new ones from www.livesteam.net . Finally there are other very good resources on the web. I would go to www.google.com and type in what you are looking for. You will no doubt get sick of reading before you run out of information. For your question about the Ohio live steam club you may want to try the message board at www.chaski.com/wwwboard/index.html There are people on the Live Steam board who can help you find a club. Thanks again for joining and please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.

Hello. I'm not sure about a club in the Columbus area. But the club I'm in, Sacramento Valley Live Steamers, has a link page to other clubs on the web site at www.svls.org. The nearest one I saw that had an address was in Illinois, but there were several listings without addresses, and I didn't look at all of them. There are also a few other live steam sites that post clubs or links to clubs. I looked on another live steam web site and found a live steam club in Kirtland, up near the lake off Interstate 90. The web site is www.lakeshorelivesteamers.com/home.shtml. Hope this helps! Dale Dennis
