I found a Mountain Car Company 40' double door boxcar that I knew would make a great Soo Line model.
I replaced the roofwalks and lateral walks with wood to match the Soo car. I also raised the brake wheel to just under the roof edge and I installed tack boards on the doors and ends. I suppose I could put some cut levers on as well but it looks good just the way it is.
Here is a photo of the Soo Line car I am trying to replicate
Since the MCC car is aluminum I primed it with the aluminum primer then painted the oxide red using spray cans from NAPA. The red is very near the color of the prototype cars. These cars had black ends, trucks, and underframe which will really set this car off.
The 4' tall SOO LINE lettering should show up nicely as well. I hope to get the stencils later this week so the graphics can be put on and as soon as the couplers arrive it will be pressed into service.
More to follow.........

I finished the Soo Line 40' double door boxcar this morning. I weathered it to appear it is in service, and I may weather the rest of my cars sometime in the future.
The stencils are on and ready for painting. Thanks to Chris at Horizon Graphics in Somerset KY, these stencils are right on to replicate the prototype car.
The finished car on the ready track
I am going to be bringing this one to the spring meet at Canton.
Now to go finish the mowing of the grass..........
