I am thinking of build the 1"scale "Marie E" 0-4-0 locomotive from Reeves 2000. I was wondering if anyone has tried building this engine, what kind of problems if any did they run into, did they finish it, happy with it, etc. I ordered the plans, they look simple enough but I am looking for other options. Thanks

I have a Marie E but I didn't build it. I have rebuilt the valve gear with some considerable help and got it running better. Observations:- very shallow fire box makes keeping a fire going interesting, non superheated and big cylinders so uses water at a prodigious rate. Find somewhere to add some ballast, about 20 or 30 pounds would help. I love mine and it looks different to everything else here ( I am in the UK). There are other locos that are significantly better runners and passenger haulers. Andy

Thanks Andy,I even emailed Reeves about it, they said there are some being build but could not tell me anything. Never thought about having to add weight. Thanks again Gary
