I have been "working" on the first Kozo Shay in 1 1/2" scale for 7 1/4" Gage, for some time. Since I had limited access at that time to a machine shop I started with the boiler, figuring it would be the major stopping item for me to do it at home. I only managed to obtain and cut the pipe for the outside shell, and that is where the project stalled. I now have some time and I am wondering if I should continue with the earlier Shay, or divert my attention to the New Shay.
I now actually work at the machine shop mentioned earlier, and have access to CNC lathe, CNC Swiss, CNC mill, and wire EDM, along with TIG, MIG, and Plasma cutting. I am entertaining resuming the project and building a couple of Shays, and I am wondering if there is any interest from fellow builders for specific parts. As you probably know one of the major costs of running CNC equipment is the setup time; after that the cost per part can be minor, especially during large runs.
Thanks for any help, directions or advice.
