I don't recall exactly, but I think mine deflected more like .050, so cheers to your easier straightening.
I remember now that I wished I had filed or milled a flat in the hack sawn recess to give both sides even pressure when pressing. My recess was unequal from the saw and one side bent more than the other and had to be reworked independently.

I wonder if I should separate the two frame rails and then check the straightness. Maybe the stresses in one rail is canceling the stresses in the other?

Thanks for the complements and encouragement.
I hope to keep up with the pictures. Flickr sure does make it easy to upload, add comments, and organize.
I know that the pictures and descriptions of the A3 that were around several years back were, and are, a great resource (I'd like to list names, but fear that I would leave someone out). I especially like the photos that show the machining steps and setup.

Front Axle Box is Complete. It is nice to finally have a moving part, even if it is only about 0.190" of front axle float.

Haven't looked that far ahead for a while. I think it only rests on the frames in back maybe so expansion/contraction can take place. I'll try to remember to look but someone else may get back with the answer before me. Or you may have figured it out already. Paul ps I grew up near Marseilles IL. Wasn't there a "famous" train wreck near where you live in prior to WWII? Seems like my dad mentioned it once.

If you do mechanically fasten it at both ends you'll need to find a way to allow for thermal expansion or else you will warp your frame as the boiler comes up to temp. On the A3, the boiler is "sort of" held in place to keep from bouncing around by the front of the cab and the boler grab rails. Robert
