After much debate on constructing a live steam locomotive, I have opted to attempt constructing a specific engine, of which I have an interest, may be able to complete (time frame TBA), which is of a relatively "simple" design. What is available in the 1" market is slim, and the suppliers of kits have a questionable track record (unfortunate for those in or starting in the hobby).
I am attempting to create construction drawings for a 1” scale 4-4-0 (specifically the NYC&HRR 999 in it’s original incarnation). I have found many diagrams and articles discussing Stephenson valve gear; however, I have not seen any diagrams illustrating specific geometry of the system. I would appreciate any help.
In addition, any specifics, drawings, links, photos, data would be appreciated regarding the locomotive.
Thanks, Jimmy

Look at Kozo's book on building the shay, it uses that valve gear if I recall correctly.

I've got drawings of both the Reading Camelback that belongs to me and drawings of an Allen Models Chloe. I could run a copy of each and send them to you. Send your snail mail address to my email listed in my profile here. (andypullen) Get yourself a copy of "Locomotive Valves and Valve Gears" from www.lindsaybks.com , too. I think that's the title at least. It's on my shelf in the basement. Andy Pullen
