Has anyone successfully made a scaled down PRR Banshee whistle for their live steamer? Where can I find the blueprints for the Banshee?

It makes a screeching EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH A really SHRILL sound, piercing, I like it, lol. Pennsy Freight locomotives used them. Theres a web page somewhere that has a sound recording of the whistle. Its on the same web page that is of the last Pennsy decapod.

Pennsy will tell you that my 0-4-0's whistle sounds a bit like a banshee. It will hurt your ears. I used a small caboose whistle that I modified. I machined the female threads off the bottom of the whistle and the female threads off the top of a Lunkenheimer whistle valve and silver soldered the 2 together. It's a little out of scale, but I like it......I've gotten lots of complaints about it!

Hi Andy and Gang, You bet I can tell you about that whistle. When I was a kid I will never never forget when laying in bed trying to go to sleep and listening to two HIPPOS sitting about 200 feet from our home on the South Fork Branch getting ready to shove a coal train west up the mountain, getting up steam and hearing the pumps and the exhausts from those two Pennsy I1sa. Boy do I miss hearing that sound but thankful I was around to experance all the steam on the 4 track main line that ran through our town. When thay got the highball, the engneer would grab the whistle cord and let lose that BANSHEE on the locomotive and signal to the lead he was ready to move out onto the main and shove coal up and over the hill. With both I1sa in unison grunting and shoving and slipping occasionally,it sent chills right up your spine and you had wished you were the engineer moving that freight train. Yes Andy your whistle did a lot of loud screeching but it was nice to hear even though it did hurt, but a nice hurt. For many years the I's roamed through the Conemaugh Valley on the Pittsburgh Division and did all the heavy lifting and pushing on the Pennsy. The PRR had 598 I1's on their roster which was the largest class of locomotive ever owned by one railroad. Sorry fellows ,I got carried away again. Jack
