Congrats on the crankshaft!
Mine is tight too - I need a wrench to turn the assembled motor. I revolved it some on the lathe with holding the crankcase in my hand, but I am mostly counting on running the loco on rollers to break it in. My other locos were also tight and loosened up after 20 minutes of running.

great idea to use the lathe. Ran the crank in the bottom bracket for about 15 minutes and it loosened right up. Do have a hitch in the 2nd journal, it appears to be rubbing against the bushing. Other than that it seem pretty smooth.

Hi all, its been a while but still making some progress. Today I started running engine on air. It ran rough but it did run. I have the engine mounted in a vise. I would have to start it by hand and it would start turning on its own. I was using 45 lbs of pressure. It would not run continuously at lower pressures. What no load pressure should this engine run at? I know it is stiff and needs to be run to break it in but I don't want to overdue the breakin with to much pressure. I have not hooked the links to the Johnson bar nor are the cylinder cocks installed. The links are free to move but seem to stay in position as it runs. Any suggestions on getting this to run smoothly would be appreciated. Dave
