Sounds like a cool project. When was the Doris design published?

The Doris was designed in the 1940s the one i have been given has had an OE that would make most people jealous it was started in england and then wound up being in new Zealand. At present have stripped down the tender and begun cleaning this up and getting it prepped to fit brakes. Whilst awaiting castings finished making the boiler which i hope to have finished today. Will upload more photos as i progress. The one attached is how i received the loco. Thanks for the interest was not felt welcome at chaski Attachments:

There are definitely more people active on chaski, and quite a few with interest in the smaller scales. I've found that questions will get answered, but may not attract other comments until people get to know you and your project.
Are you planning to use the Doris drawings as designed for detailing or another source of prototype details also?

I have brought the plans but i am going to use baker valve gear instead of the more conventional walcherst. Boiler is all soldiered up now hope to hydrulic it today am expecting a few leaks but hope there is none running pressure is 90psi so need to test to 180psi. Will upload photos later today. well tested my boiler today and found that whilst all the joints were sound have one holed flue tube made a bung for both ends and tested to 180psi not a problem so looks like my boiler is going to be scrapped as it will not pass the boiler inspector and due to me not being happy will build a new one.

Sorry to hear that Does it seem to be somewhere inside the tube rather than at one end, is that what you meant?

No way to get that one tube out and replace it? If everything else is sound seems a shame to scrap it unless absolutely no way to change it out.
I think Chaski can be a little intimidating myself and I have also run into large scalers (both online and in person) who seem to scorn the smaller scales. Life is too short for that nonsense so I don't post much on Chaski and only skim it from time to time to see if anything of relevance to me is being discussed (seldom is).
Seems like most of us on here are easier to get along with and very complimentary of each others work. Not a real active board but that's OK with me since I don't like to spend any more time online than I have to.
Welcome to the group!

have thought of replacing it but will need to heat the tube plate to red hot again to melt soldier then try and extract tube fit new one and reheat the only problem is getting the whole lot to re seal again thought of just extracting it and making a solid stay for it as its only the bottom tube.

You guys know the old saying nothing ventured nothing gained. Was so upset looking at this boiler that i decided to extract the misbehaving tube with success i might add. So now if i flux the whole tube plate and get it red i hope to be able re soldier it might even get some 55% silver soldier as this melts at a lot lower temp. Wish me luck ;D

I think Chaski can be a little intimidating myself and I have also run into large scalers who seem to scorn the smaller scales. Most of us (in the USA) buy into the general notion that bigger is better. This is unfortunate because bigness has nothing to do with accuracy or reliability or efficiency or any other operational or aesthetic qualities you might be looking for in of a loco. The reality is that fits, tolerances, and working clearances in smaller scales are proportionately smaller than large scales and thus demand proportionately more skill and accuracy to do the same thing, not less. There is almost nothing one can do in 2.5" scale that you can't do in 3/4" scale, if you have enough desire and skill. The other thing is, who are they to dictate to you what your hobby choices should be? As I've gotten older I've become more confident that what I want to do is what is best for me and that is the key. I also think there are a few folks who need to be told to mind their own business more often.
