Andy, I am interested in your comment that schedule 40 pipe is not thick enough. In 6", schedule 40 has a .280 wall thickness, 80 has a .430 wall thickness. The .280 by previous designs and published data is plenty adequate for a 6" boiler. Can you let us know where you are coming from on this? Thanks, Doug E. The boiler for my Heisler was built with schedule 40 pipe and welded by a pressure vessel welder he did not have any concerns. The boiler works fine.

Hi, I have just recently found this forum and find it most informative. Presently in the process of rebuilding my 5" gauge Climax which I constructed in the mid 90's and ran it at our track on passenger hauling activities for years before it became a little to loose in the valve gear. Loco was dismantled and repairs were carried out but due my enthusiasm with motorcycles the poor old Climax was never reassembled and gathered dust in the background. Now I am retired from the workforce time has arrived for the resurrection, loco has been pulled down again and components are now outside in the sunshine after being freshly painted.
Hopefully I will have the frames, trucks and powerhead all back together over the next day or 2. Post some piccies down the track.

Milled the wheels from solid steel that was quite a job not having a rotary table. Just used a drill vise with a bolt to hold wheel and using x and y wheels manually to make the curve at the spokes.
